Axia College falls under the umbrella of the University of Phoenix (UOP). Originally established in 2004 under the University of Phoenix's sister school, Western International University, the combination of a high registration number and the potential for growth required a closer association with UOP in 2006. Axia College is an online learning institution. It is geared toward students who also hold full time jobs, who need more flexibility in their learning schedule. More than one hundred thousand students currently attend Axia College. Why Attend Axia College? The real question is why not attend Axia College? Since the class schedule at Axia College is tailored towards people with busy lives, you can balance learning with all the other facets of your life. Axia College is also great for a mature student who has a busy family life. If you have a child or children and can't fit regular campus-based learning into your schedule, Axia College makes for a great option for higher learning. Course Material Course materials at Axia College are downloaded by the students and all the work is done independently, through telecommuting. It is a standard online distance education setup. All the material necessary is available for download, from the syllabus to presentations. You simply upload your completed course material to your instructor's desktop to complete assignments. Forums & Chat Rooms Since students don't have the opportunity to talk to one another face to face, there is a forum available for communication. On the Axia College main forum, students can offer or ask for help from one another, debate subjects and have something close to a classroom experience. For students looking for more immediate and conversational communication with their peers, there is also a chat room that allows students to discuss their course work. This way it is possible to find new friends and acquaintances that can help you in your learning experience and perhaps become "college buddies" while you're at it. Accreditation Axia College is a fully accredited college. It is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. You should always make sure that any university or college that offers distance education or online course work is accredited by reputable organizations. This information can usually be easily found on the Axia College web site, and can be verified by calling any organizations that are normally responsible for accrediting colleges in a given area.
