In the past decade there has been a real boom in the growth of online higher education, with many new online colleges popping up all over the Internet and many traditional universities also choosing to offer distance education as an option to students.
But how can you find the best online college when it can be hard to tell if an online college is even reputable? With no campus to visit it's possible for even the most earnest student to be fooled by a disreputable diploma mill.

The Online Education Database (oedb.org) rated Nova Southeastern University, Regent University and Champlain College their three best online colleges for 2009.
Their ranking is based on differentials including acceptance rate, scholarly citations, graduation rate, peer Web citations and the number of years the school has been accredited, among other factors.
BestCollegesOnline.com have rated Kaplan University, the University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University their three best online colleges.
This site ranks colleges based on their accreditation, internship opportunities, supplementary on-site lab work and real-world experience and a variety in the course work.
