There are many reasons to consider colleges in San Diego. California is a large state, both in area and in population.
As a result, just about every major city has a number of institutes of higher learning. Well, San Diego in no exception. There are many fine colleges in San Diego, covering a wide range of subjects.
Good Quality, Affordable Price
Let us take a closer look at some of the cheaper colleges in San Diego. San Diego State University is an inexpensive state university that offers bachelors, masters and doctorates in a wide range of subjects. Tuition, for in-state residents, is quite reasonable.
It also offers Pell Grants and other forms of student assistance. San Diego City College is an even more reasonably priced specimen of colleges in San Diego; tuition is only $276 per year! Of course, there is a trade-off; the college is only two-year, so you can only get an associates degree from it.
Then there is the San Diego Mesa College, another college in San Diego that is two-year, and hence gives out associate’s degrees.
Big Prices, Big Benefits
Now, on the other end of the scale of colleges in San Diego are schools like the University of San Diego, and Point Loma Nazarene University. Both are private (for profit) institutions, and their tuition ranks up at about $20,000 and $15,000, respectively.
Yet, do not let their price scare you off. Like so many colleges in San Diego, they have scholarship programs, student loans and a host of other means to help students offset the cost of attending.
Middle Ground
If you want to, as they say, “split the difference” there are colleges in San Diego that fall between the highs and the lows. The ITT Technical Institute is a prime example.
It has a plethora of four-year programs in all kinds of engineering and technical subjects; and its tuition runs right around $10,000 per year. Right under that is the Kelsey-Jenney College at around $8,000, but it is only a two-year college; so bear that in mind.
Specialize
Some of the colleges in San Diego are quite specialized. So, if you are looking for a career in architecture, check out the New School of Architecture and Design.
On the other hand, if clothing or make-up is your passion, there are colleges in San Diego to suit you, like the Fashion Careers of California; they have a campus right in the city, and the Marinello School of Beauty.
As the legal profession takes up a sizeable piece of American life, there are several law schools among the colleges of San Diego; the Thomas Jefferson School or law, to name only one. Or, if being a lawyer is outside your abilities, try the Court Reporting Institute.
No matter what your interest, it’s easy to see that the colleges in San Diego can cater to whatever degree you wish to pursue.
