Harvard University online degree school is called Harvard Extension School.
With more than six hundred courses in over sixty-five fields available throughout the calendar year, Harvard Extension School offers education through online courses as well as night school.
Is it Really Harvard?
When you receive an education from the Harvard Extension School, your transcript does not state that you have a Harvard University online degree.
It does not differentiate distance education from campus based education. You are still getting a high caliber, Ivy League education with a Harvard University online degree.
If you are looking to transfer your credits to another school, you will have to check to see if the Harvard Extension School credits are acceptable. This may vary from school to school, and it is footwork you are required to do yourself.
Instructors
The instructors for a Harvard University online degree are often the same instructors that teach on campus at Harvard University. The Harvard Extension School faculty also includes instructors from other schools and some specialized industry professionals.
Familiarize yourself with the course descriptions and you can find out who your instructor will be and what institution they are affiliated with.
It is also possible to apply as an instructor for online and distance courses if you have a professional background that supports your application.
Distance Learning
Taking distance courses from Harvard Extension School is treated the same way as taking traditional classes. Grades and credit are given to all students in the same way regardless of how they have chosen to receive their education.
Applied Sciences and Environmental Management certificate programs can be totally completed via online learning, but some degree and certificate programs may have other requirements.

Difference from Other Online Educators
Distance and online learning at Harvard is not as flexible as some distance learning educators.
Students follow the same academic calendar as regular students, can communicate with their professors via email and must meet regular due dates.
With courses at Harvard Extension School and classes that involve working towards a Harvard University online degree, examinations need to either be taken on campus or arrangements need to be made to have them proctored at a school near you.
