Make up artist schools are not just a trade school, they are an art school.

While studying make up artistry is not considered by many to be a traditional form of higher learning, it is as important for a would-be make up artist to have the same kind of professional development as any other kind of artist.

An accredited cosmetologist is as important to creating a beautiful face as an accredited architect is to creating a beautiful building. In both cases, the client will want to be sure that they have the right tools and know how to use them.

Going to Beauty School

To gain entry into make up artist schools, a high school diploma is almost always a necessity. Because it is a form of art school, many would-be make up artists also have a background drawing, photography or painting or may have studied theater, art or film in college.

What is most important is that you have a great eye for detail and continue to educate yourself not only on the types of beauty products that are available, but new uses for make up and beauty accessories, new trends and new techniques in make up.

Any job that deals with aesthetics requires a person to be adaptable to change and willing to learn.

There are lots of great makeup schools all across the United States, but New York and Los Angeles are two cities that make it easy to learn the ins and outs of the glamour trade since television, film and modeling industries call those two cities home in a big way.

The Art of Beauty Makeup School

Located in Soho, New York, the Art of Beauty Makeup School offers intimate classes and private lessons directed by world-renown makeup artist Linda Mason.

Make-Up Designory

With campuses in New York  and Los Angeles, the Make-Up Designory and offers course work on beauty, character and special effects make up, along with hairstyling and portfolio development.

Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts

Burbank, California's Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts, owned by award-winning makeup artist Marvin Westmore, offers classes in beauty and glamour makeup as well as makeup for photography and motion pictures.

Joe Blasco

Joe Blasco Professional Make-Up Artist Training Centers are run by another Hollywood makeup artist, Joe Blasco, and offers classes in many types of specialized makeup artistry along with beauty makeup, like prosthetics, monster design and f/x construction processes.

It is always a good thing to stick with make up artist schools that have experienced, professional artists teaching the students.

So make sure you check the credentials and past work of artists who run these make up artist schools to make sure you approve of their work as much as you want them to approve of yours.
